Experts in organic farming

Organic wine, ecological or biological is wine that is produced from grapes cultivated and harvested without man-made additives. They do not include synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. The process of harvesting and creating wine at the winery is also part of the process that defines organic wine. Maintaining complete separation between conventional grapes and organic grapes is a very important part of creating organic wine. This separation through crushing, soaking filtering and fermentation remains separate from growth in the vineyard through serving organic wine with preferred delicacies.

All wine created from organic farming at Bodegas Latúe complies with the following regulations in Europe: (CE) number 834/2007 and 889/2008 and also certified by SOHISCERT and BIOSIEGEL. Since 2009, all wine created from organic farming at Bodegas Latúe is produced and handled in accordance with the rules determined by the United States National Organic Program (US-NOP).

The function of the regulatory bodies

Sociedad Hispana de Certificación (SOHISCERT www.sohiscert.com) establishes the best practices in the production of organic products. Guarantee the sanitary quality and regulates the production of organic products.

Bio-Siegel (www.bio-siegel.de) is an independent German organization that identifies, inspects, and certifies agricultural products and foods. BIOSIEGEL is the official label for organically grown agricultural products and foods. This label helps the consumer distinguish between organically and conventionally produced products.

United States Department of Agriculture National Organic Program (USDA NOP) www.ams.usda.gov/AMSv1.0/nop) develops, implements, and administers national production, handling, and labeling standards for all products that derive from organic production. Organic production defined by the Organic Foods Production Act (OFPA) of 1990 and Title 7, part 205 of the Code of Federal Regulations responds to site-specific conditions. It integrates cultural, biological, and mechanical practices that foster cycling of resources, promote ecological balance, and conserve biodiversity.
